For example, since 1990 we have reduced the CO2 emissions per ton of aluminum produced by 73 percent. During the same timeframe, increased use of aluminum in the world’s vehicle fleet has avoided putting one billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere and saved more than 84 billion liters of gasoline.
