Alcoa Helps Maryville, TN School with Can Collection Drives

Alcoa recently sponsored a local Maryville, Tennessee elementary school in their series of can collection drives, which started at the beginning of September and culminated last weekend on November 15, which was America Recycles Day. The total amount of cans collected at Foothills during this campaign exceeded 1,100 pounds!
Since September, the school chose a few Saturdays to open up their parking lot to parents, teachers, friends, local businesses, and others in the community to bring in their aluminum cans for the school to recycle. After each collection event, the cans were taken to a local metal dealer for cash redemption, which in turn was used to purchase new technology items for the school.
Foothills Elementary School, located near the Aloca Tennessee Operations, began their recycling involvment in a program called the Cans for Cash collection drive through a partnership with Alcoa. Alcoa volunteers have helped the school during their can collection drives and encouraged employees to take their cans to Foothills. Foothills is competing against other registered schools from around the country in this Cans for Cash program. Winning schools will receive a $250 cash prize from the Aluminum Can Council, which is the group running this school competition.
